Cruisin’

May 7, 2018

We’re going on a cruise, he said.

Ok, he said.

They sat, side-by-side and watched what passed for the sunrise.

“I’m not in love.”

“Really?”

“So don’t forget it. It’s just a silly phase I’m going through.”

“M-hm.”

“I’d like to see you. But then again, it doesn’t mean you mean that much to me.”

“Right.”

“So don’t tell your friends about the two of us.”

“I won’t.”

A splat of what was probably oatmeal struck then stuck to the poster on the wall.

HAVE YOU TAKEN YOUR MEDS TODAY?, it asked in large letters above a picture of the Sun coming up over the ocean.

But they didn’t seem to notice. They tried not to notice the food fight behind them either.

“Not sure I care for the on-board movie today.”

“Me neither.”

There was a pause.

He turned to him and said, “You’ll wait a long time for me.”

He looked back at him and said, “Why don’t you shut up?”

“Make me.”

He did.
